Goals set for 10 years can give us a vision of where we hope to be in the future. While it may seem far away, the years can go by quicker than we realize.

It’s important for us to determine what reality we want to build for ourselves in our next stage of life. The things you focus on and pursue now will determine how things will be later. Here are some great goals to set for the next 10 years of your life.

1. Have a happy family

This goal will be different for everybody. Some of you might be single and currently looking for a partner. Others of you might be married and getting ready to have a baby. And then some are already married with kids and navigating all the stresses of family life.

Take time to take care of all of your family relationships in life. First, start with loving yourself. If you don’t love yourself much, you’re probably not going to love others much either.

When you have established a healthy relationship with yourself, strive for the same with others.

Resolve conflicts, create time for connection, and be there for your loved ones. Harvard discovered happy relationships were the number one factor to someone having a long, joyful life.

2. Take care of your physical well-being

Ten years from now your body can be in the best shape it’s ever been, or steadily on the decline. That will depend on how much you prioritize your well-being.

If you don’t eat well, exercise, get sleep and do all the other basics that lead to wellness, you likely won’t be in the best shape. Not to be grim, but you might not even be around for those next ten years.

Just take some small steps of action each day to make yourself better. Go to bed 30 minutes earlier than you normally do. Take a walk outside when it’s sunny and warm.

Get regular physical checkups and consult with your doctor about the best diet for you. Doing these things will make you more likely to feel good ten years from now. The better you feel, the better you’ll be able to enjoy your life.

3. Make yourself financially well-off

It would be great to get yourself to a place in life where you don’t have to worry about money anymore. You can do that by employing a number of different strategies. A few of them include:

Take time to research the best approach to doing these actions. Get to a place a decade from now where you’re able to enjoy the fruits of your labor.

4. Take of your mental well being

Our thoughts, emotions, and overall mental wellbeing can sometimes affect us physically. In the next ten years, maybe it’s time for you to let go of hate, bitterness, and any anger you may feel now.

Holding on to any of that only keeps you from developing more joy in your life. If you need to, seek a counselor to help you overcome your issues. Overcoming your mental challenges can be one of the greatest achievements of your life.

5. Establish the career you want

You don’t have to stay stuck in the same dead-end job ten years from now. You can take steps to get yourself a career that you enjoy. It just takes identifying what needs to be done to make it happen.

It may involve going back to school, getting an internship, or starting at an entry-level position for another company. Figure out what it’ll take, and start moving forward with a plan to get your career set up.

6. Grow up

Nobody wants to be the exact same person they were ten years ago. It’s important to continually evolve and grow as a person.

It leads to better decision-making and better coping with whatever life throws at you. You can achieve personal growth through seeking new experiences and continually re-evaluating your approach to life. Get to a point where you’re proud of the person you’re becoming.

7. Settle on a purpose

Behind all the growing and working you’re doing, have some kind of meaning for your life. Even if you already have one, try developing a renewed sense of purpose.

Be determined to pursue some kind of mission in life. That could be increasing your dedication to your faith, or it could be deepening your commitment to a cause. By the end of ten years, get closer to living out a life of meaning.

8. Don’t have the same worries as you do now

This goal kind of encompasses all the other ones on this list. When I look back at my life ten years ago, I realize I no longer have the same worries I did.

That of course doesn’t mean I have no worries now. But it feels good to know the things that used to worry me no longer do.

What’s been bothering you this past year? What’s been something you’ve been dealing with since ten years ago? Make it your goal to overcome these things for good ten years from now.

9. Make the world a better place

In ten years, you can do a lot of good not only for yourself but for those around you. How you do that is up to you? You could donate more money to charity or participate more in charitable causes.

Practicing more selflessness can not only potentially make others happier, but it can also make you happier too. When you get through another ten-year cycle in your life, be able to look back and say you made some lives better.

10. Accomplish most of your ten year goals

It’s possible you won’t accomplish all of the goals listed here in the next ten years. But if you achieve most of them, you’ll probably be a lot happier in the future.

Do your best to accomplish a majority of what you set out to do. Long-term goals are a great way to map out the reality we want in life. Take time to decide on your ten-year goals, and commit yourself to work as hard as you can to be successful.
