Studies have found that it’s often the case that we can underestimate on our own abilities. Here’s some research that can encourage you to believe you’re much stronger than you imagine.

1. Being adaptable is in your DNA

Research found that human evolutionary success was based on our ability to adapt to our environment. When people migrated to islands, they quickly adapted to exploiting marine habitats for survival.

Beyond this study, imagine all the historical events we’ve overcome, and the innovations we’ve made to have the life we live today. With all that in mind, you should definitely feel encouraged to recognize that you’re more powerful than you think.

2. Humans are able to learn to be resilient

Research has shown that we can improve our resilience. It’s mostly based on establishing a growth mindset.

A growth mindset is the belief that your skills and abilities can improve through practice and effort. Choose to believe you can do better over time to help yourself see how strong you can be.

Studies have found that high achievers can often underestimate their talents. Students in school who were really smart often failed to accurately self-assess how well they do in school.

4. You’ve overcome struggles

If you’ve lived long enough, you’ve probably managed to get through some difficult struggles in your life. I think back to many moments that I overcame physical and emotional pain. Reminding myself of those times can help me to recognize that I have the inner-strength to move forward in the face of adversity.

It takes a lot of strength to keep going in life. We hear a lot of bad news everyday or deal with a lot of stress. But many of us still find a way to be motivated to get up for another day.

You can be proud of yourself for that. This alone is really good evidence that you’re stronger than you realize.

A lot of the strength you have is based on what you think of yourself. Choose to believe that you can be a strong enough person to face what you need to face in life. Remember how much you’ve pushed through in the past to as a reminder that you have to power to withstand adversity and move forward stronger than ever.
