Minimalist Apartment Checklist That Will Make Your Home a Special Place

Minimalist apartment checklist

Creating a minimalist apartment checklist can help you stay organized in how you want to arrange your new space. The list can include some of your ideas, examples you like, and your must haves.

The way you set up your apartment should be in a way that brings you peace and makes you feel good. Depending on whether you’re living alone or with someone, you can try to keep certain items to a minimum to keep your place clutter free.

Here are some suggestions you can consider adding to your checklist.

Living room

The living room is the first place most people see in their apartments. You want to enter that space and immediately feel a sense of calm and comfort. After a long day at work or being out on the town, getting back to your home should feel like a relief.

Here are a few items you might want to have in that space

  • Couch

Having a comfortable couch, you can lie on as soon as you step in your apartment could be really relaxing. It’s also good if you plan to have guests in your home often such as friends or family.

It can be a place you and your partner snuggle up together as well. Nonetheless, if you plan to live alone and not have many guests, a comfortable chair can be just as suitable.

  • Chair

A chair or two can be good if you plan to live alone or only have one or two guests every now then. Find a chair that’s just large enough to be comfortable for your size and the guests you imagine coming over.

  • TV

If you’re a person that enjoys watching TV, you can find a small television to add to your living room. Otherwise, you can use your laptop or other devices to watch your favorite tv shows and films.

  • Lamp

A lamp may not be necessary if you just prefer to rely on the overhead lights.

  • Table

It’s nice to have a spot where you can place stuff in your pocket down or other items you’re carrying. The kitchen counter is an option if you prefer not to have a table in the living room.

Kitchen

Kitchens can be filled with a lot of items or a few items depending on how much you enjoy cooking. The amount of plates and bowls you have should be based on who’s living with you and the guests you expect to have.

  • Plates, bowls, and silverware

If you live alone and you’re certain you won’t have any guests, you can choose to have one plate, one bowl, and one of each utensil. One or two extra utensils, plates, and bowls can be stored for guests.

  • Trash can

Whether you’re a minimalist or not, unless you don’t mind always getting up to throw something away in the dumpster, a trash can will more than likely be a necessity.

  • Hand towel

A hand towel may not be necessary. You can wash your dishes and leave them to dry on their own if you’re a person that doesn’t eat that often.

  • Dish soap

This item is another essential for keeping your plates, bowls, and silverware clean enough to use again.

  • Sponge

Sponges make washing your plates easier.

  • Table

Your table doesn’t have to be too large. It can be big enough for you and maybe one or two guests.

  • Chairs

You might consider having foldable chairs that you can put away whenever you’re done using them.

Bathroom

The bathroom could be the place in your apartment where you’re able to be the most minimal. Other than your basic toiletries, there’s not much you need to put into it. This of course may vary based on whether you’re a man or a woman.

  • Toilet paper

One or two rolls should last you awhile if you live alone or just with a partner.

  • Bath towel

A bath towel will be a necessity to dry yourself off.

  • Shower curtain

A shower curtain will also be a necessity to keep your floors from getting wet and your bathroom from getting really foggy.

  • Shower rug

The shower rug will help keep your floors dry when you step out of the shower.

  • Toilet brush, toilet cleaner, and plunger

It’s always good to keep your toilet clean and functioning properly.

  • Personal hygiene products

If you’re a man, you probably only need a toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, and a razor for the most part. If you’re a woman, you might need much more than that, which is fine.

You can be a minimalist and have a lot of personal hygiene products if that adds joy to your life.

  • Band-aids

Better safe than sorry, right?

Bedroom

Your bedroom is the room you can most personalize to fit with your idea of a minimalist lifestyle. It can be the area of your home that has the most stuff that brings you joy and meaning

  • Mattress

The size will vary based on your preferences and if you’re sharing it with someone. Some people like to have a mattress, while others prefer a floor bed.

  • Sheets

Unless you’ll keep your room at a certain temperature or don’t like sheets, these would be good to bring with you.

  • Nightstand

Having a spot next to your bed to put down a book or place your lamp could be nice.

  • Lamp

I personally prefer a lamp over having to use an overhead light.

  • Pictures

You can hang some of your favorite pictures on your wall that bring back positive memories.

  • Personal items

Any other personal items that are meaningful to you, fill your room with it.

  • Portable closet rack

If you don’t have a lot of clothes, a portable closet rack can be useful.

  • Dresser

If you don’t want to use a closet rack, a dresser can be suitable as well.

Closing tips

Here are a few final tips to make your apartment your own as a minimalist.

Remember that you don’t need to use the cliché white and gray colors. Color your rooms whatever color makes you happy.

If you’re making changes in your home to be more minimalist, make sure you’ve taken proper measurements of your space to know what furniture will fit.

Lastly, whether you want a large lamp or a small lamp, a big TV or a little tv, choose whatever you feel you’d be happiest with.

I hope this list gave you some good ideas of what items to add in your apartment. List as many or as few items as you feel will bring you the joy and meaning in life you desire.
